Buy a Ski Cabin in South Fork, CO or Pagosa Springs?

Why buy a ski cabin in South Fork, CO vs. Pagosa Springs, CO?

I am asked on a regular basis by customers to explain the differences between South Fork and Pagosa.  Every year I have customers compare the two communities and many of these clients end up buying in Pagosa.  I wanted to write some points to ponder that many people fail to consider when making a ski cabin purchase.

1. Wolf Creek Ski area gets the most snow in Colorado, hence the pass is closed approximately 3 weeks per year on the Pagosa side, and only a day or two from the South Fork side to Wolf Creek Ski Area.
a.   Point:  Sit in your cabin on outstanding Powder days in Pagosa or hit the slopes if you own in South Fork.

2. Many people fail to consider the distance from their property to Wolf Creek Ski area.
a. Point: Most of the Prime Ski cabins in South Fork are only 20 minutes away from Wolf Creek, while most of the ski cabins in Pagosa are over an hour's drive.

3. Pagosa Springs does offer more shopping and things to do, but South Fork is more affordable and offers a small town feel with some great burger joints, and upscale dining with the Swiss Chalet, Rockaway, and Rio Grande Club.
a.
Point: South Fork doesn’t offer as many alternatives, but does have ice skating at the town hall, snowmobile rentals, small taverns, great ski shops like 8200 and everything is less crowded during peak seasons than Pagosa Springs.

4. Pagosa Springs is crowded with People and South Fork is crowded with deer, foxes, and elk during the winter.
a. Point: Spend time in a beautiful Mountain Community or fight the crowds.

In summation many fail to consider the benefits of South Fork during ski season and fail to realize this is the closest property to Wolf Creek Ski area, which boasts about having “THE MOST SNOW IN COLORADO”
